Evaluation of Science and Research

The Research, Development and Innovation Council (R&D&I Council) is the government's expert and advisory body for research, development, and innovation.

The evaluation of research organizations in the Czech Republic is currently carried out according to the Methodology for the Evaluation of Research Organizations.

Science and Research Outputs

Science and research outputs are evaluated in two groups of results, namely biblio-metrizable and non-biblio-metrizable.

Biblio-metrizable Results

Published results subject to evaluation using bibliometric analysis. Journal articles and conference publications included in following databases are evaluated: Web of Science (Journal Citation Reports respectively) and Scopus with indicators  Article Influence Score (Web of Science database) and Scimago Journal Rank (Scopus database).

Non-biblio-metrizable Results

Other types of results are evaluated in the peer-review process as non-bibliometrizable.

Ten percent of the results from each institution are selected for evaluation. These include:

    • Books, chapters in books, other peer-reviewed articles
    • Patents, industrial and utility models
    • Prototypes, functional samples, pilot plants
    • Verified technologies, software
    • Results reflected in legal regulations, standards
    • Methodologies, specialized maps, research reports
    • Organization of exhibitions, conferences, and workshops
