DAAD Study

DAAD - Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (German Academic Exchange Service) is an organization which supports researchers in cooperation between Czech and German universities.

The DAAD study room is located on the first floor of the Academic Library. The collection is available for on-site study in the library only and is continuously being expanded.

Subjects covered: German studies, literary studies, history, art and culture, university research, and fiction.

About the Austrian Library

The Austrian Library in České Budějovice has been active since 1993. At the time of its opening, it was administered by the Faculty of Education library and after the merging of the faculty libraries, it has been located in the USB Academic Library since January 2010.

The Austrian Library is located on the 2nd floor of the Academic Library.

Austrian libraries provide the public with Austrian literature and information about Austria. The Austrian Library in České Budějovice is one of eight Austrian libraries in the Czech Republic, the others are located in Brno, Liberec, Olomouc, Opava, Plzeň, Znojmo and Ústí nad Labem. Austrian libraries are established and supported by the Austrian Ministry for European and International Affairs in agreement with the relevant Czech institution.

The Collection composition

The Austrian Library collection focuses on Austrian literature, i.e. books by Austrian authors and literature about these authors, books focusing on Austria, its history, culture, and contemporary issues, and specialist publications by Austrian authors in the spheres of literary history, psychology, philosophy, natural sciences, etc. The collection also includes periodicals and it is continuously being expanded.

Borrowing of books

The Austrian Library is located on the 2nd floor of the Academic Library on dedicated shelves. Fiction is arranged alphabetically by authors' names, secondary literature is arranged by individual authors. Specialised literature is arranged by subject, with the relevant subjects marked on the shelves. Book borrowing is regulated by the Academic Library Rules. Readers can be employees or students of the university with a valid ID card, but also the public. The Academic Library will issue a reader's card to these interested parties.

Über die Bibliothek

Die Österreich-Bibliothek wurde in Budweis am 27.3.1993 feierlich eröffnet, zur Zeit der Eröffnung wurde sie von der Zentralbibliothek der Pädagogischen Fakultät der Südböhmischen Universität verwaltet. Nach dem Umzug der Fakultätsbibliotheken der Südböhmischen Universität in die gemeinsame Bibliothek hat die Österreich-Bibliothek seit Januar 2010 ihren Sitz in der Akademischen Bibliothek der Südböhmischen Universität. Zum 31.12.2012 umfasste die Österreich-Bibliothek 6761 Bände. Die Österreich-Bibliotheken vermitteln der Öffentlichkeit österreichische Literatur und Informationen über Österreich. Die Österreich-Bibliothek in Budweis ist eine von sieben Österreich-Bibliotheken in der Tschechischen Republik. Weitere befinden sich in Brünn, Liberec, Olmütz, Opava, Pilsen und in Znojmo. Die Österreich-Bibliotheken werden begründet und unterstützt von dem österreichischen Ministerium für europäische und internationale Angelegenheiten im Einvernehmen mit der entsprechenden Institution der tschechischen Seite.
Zusammenstellung des Bestands Der Bestand der Österreich-Bibliotheken ist auf Austriaca orientiert, also Bücher österreichischer Autoren und Literatur über diese Autoren, Bücher mit Schwerpunkt Österreich, seine Geschichte, Kultur, Gegenwart und Fachpublikationen österreichischer Autoren aus den Bereichen Kunstgeschichte, Psychologie, Philosophie, Naturwissenschaften usw.. Teil des Bestands sind auch Periodika. Der Bestand wird ständig ergänzt.

Ausleihe

Die Österreich-Bibliothek befindet sich im 2. Stock der Akademischen Bibliothek der Südböhmischen Universität auf separaten Regalen. Die Belletristik ist alphabetisch geordnet, die Sekundärliteratur steht im Anschluss an die einzelnen Autoren. Die Fachliteratur ist nach Teilgebieten geordnet, diese sind auf den Regalen gekennzeichnet. Das Ausleihen der Bücher richtet sich nach der Bibliotheksordnung der Akademischen Bibliothek der Südböhmischen Universität. Leser kann auf der Basis eines gültigen Ausweises jeder Angestellte und Studierende der Südböhmischen Universität sein, aber auch Interessenten aus den Reihen der Öffentlichkeit. Diesen Interessenten wird ein Benutzerausweis der Akademischen Bibliothek der Südböhmischen Universität ausgestellt.

Swiss Library – Schweizer Bibliothek

The Swiss Library was donated to the Academic Library by the Swiss Embassy. It is located on the 2nd floor of the Academic Library. The collection is continuously being expanded. Borrowing is governed by the Academic Library Rules.

Library of America

The American Library was donated to the Academic Library by the US Embassy. It is located on the 1st floor of the Academic Library. Borrowing is subject to the Academic Library Rules. The collection contains fiction exclusively by American authors.

Collection and Services:

The Vodnany branch provides information and library services primarily to students and employees of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, but also to the wider professional public. It manages a unique specialized collection of 20,000 library units in the areas of fisheries, hydrobiology, ichthyology, aquaculture, and related sciences. The collection of monographs, systematically built up since 1921, is supplemented by rare book donations by Prof. Eugen Balon (1930-2013), Prof. Karel Absolon (1877-1960), Prof. Vladimír Sládeček (1924-2005), doc. Petr Obrdlík, and Dr. Tomislav Petr (personal bibliography of T. Petr).
The library is based on the ground floor of the faculty main building in Vodnany and it has one study place to access the library catalogue and online databases subscribed by the University of South Bohemia. Readers have access to current printed periodicals, a reference collection, a collection of dissertations, and a complete collection of Methodologies and Bulletins from the Vodnany Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology (RIFCH)

The library is connected to the interlibrary loan service, lending and ordering books and copies of magazines from Czech libraries and, in cooperation with the National Library of the Czech Republic, from foreign libraries as well.
